The town of Bernardston is split by Route 91 - which travels N.S. from Connecticut straight through Vermont to Canada.  When you get off the highway at Exit 28 A or B, you will discover a friendly little farming/bedroom community - without a traffic light - that closes between 8 and 9 on most nights.  That is except for our close neighbor (less than a mile) Bella Notte (a restaurant with panoramic views of the valley and dancing on weekends)

Bernardston  has wonderful people, a family style restaurant, Bella Notte, two very general stores, a bakery, a pizzeria, grain store, gas station, library, art gallery and package store.   Here you can enjoy country life off the highway and play exceptional golf.

A major attraction, The Crumpin Fox Golf Club is literally in our backyard.     I am a proud  member of this course and can't say enough about it and the welcome you will get from all the pros and staff and the fun and the challenge you will have playing here.   Golf Magazine named it among the top 100 public access courses to play in the COUNTRY. (2004) Golf Week voted it the best public access course in Mass. and in 2002 named it #1 in New England and #57 overall for the top 100 courses you can play.  Also a fun place to just visit the pro shop and to eat lunch or dinner at Zeke's Grill at the club house inside or on the deck overlooking the 18th green, whether you play golf or not.    More golf is within a short drive.  The Greenfield Country Club, an 18 hole public course, is in the next town on one side.  The Northfield club, a 9 hole course, is in the town on the other side.   There's also Oak Ridge in Gill, a nine hole course in another bordering town.  The Meadows, 9 holes, is in Greenfield and Thomas's, 9 holes, in Turners Falls.  There is also a Pitch N' Putt, miniature golf and a driving range.

This property also borders a snowmobile trail that leads to an extensive and popular network.  It is between the house and the golf course and makes a great walking trail.  There is also fantastic cross country skiing nearby and places to bike, hike, play tennis and swim.  The Indoor Action Sports Center is just 5 miles away.  This is a 44,000 square foot dome which houses two field turf playing fields and hosts top players and teams in soccer, lacrosse and more.   There is also an indoor tennis and basketball court there.

Northfield Mount Hermon School is just under three miles from this guest suite and the town of Northfield lies just beyond.  Northfield is also home to the Linden Hill School.  There  is great boating on the Connecticut River just down the road and a  riverboat ride on a replica of the African Queen.

From here, if you want,  you can easily get to places that have traffic lights and stay open longer like Greenfield (10 miles)  Brattleboro VT.  (13 miles) Amherst ( 27 miles)  Northampton ( 25 miles) Springfield ( 50 miles) and Boston (90 miles)  You can also find more towns without Big Box that  have distinct personalities and are well worth visiting such as Shelburne Falls( 18 miles)  offering challenging white water rafting on the Deerfield River, plus relaxing tubing on the same, the Bridge of Flowers, fun shops, and exceptional artisans. There is also Historic Deerfield (15 miles) a preserved and revered Colonial town that is home to Deerfield Academy, Eaglebrook School, Bement, and yes, exceptional shopping at the flagship store for Yankee Candle along with other very fun shopping along the route to get there.    There are also oodles of antique stores to browse through.

The entire area is rich with history, scenery and fun places to stop.   For more information on what to do when visiting, go to  www.masscountryroads.com
